This is a hands-on role, responsible for day to day IT Network & Security delivery. Supporting IT & Information Security Director in delivery of the Group’s cyber security requirements.
Role Summary:
The Network and Security Engineer is a key Group IT role. The person will have at least 5 years of hands-on experience of managing IT networks and cyber security applications and tools, and the ability to lead on technical projects in this space. Due to the nature of the work the person must be disciplined, reliable, trustworthy and a self-starter.
- You will directly support the IT & Information Director with cyber security execution and strategy and be a lead in the cyber security programme.
- This role will suit a strong network/security engineer who can maintain and build secure IT infrastructure and who is also passionate about building cyber security defences in a challenging industry.
- The role will work alongside and be supported by skilled BAU/Projects engineers and will work with networks and security vendors who will assist deliver the network & security strategy projects.
- The person must be interested in keeping their industry knowledge up to date and applying it across all business systems.
- This role covers 8 different location centres.
- Base location is either Exeter or Bournemouth with travel if/as necessary to both locations.
- Responsible for maintaining and improving networks and firewalls.
- Responsible for securing on-premises infrastructure and cloud-based systems, as well as vetting current and new business applications for suitability for business use and configuring the infrastructure to enable security tools to function.
- Understanding industry network and security best practices, and implementing these to identify and mitigate security risks, as well as researching, designing, and implementing our future systems.
- Designing secure components for vulnerability scans, network design, defence-in-depth principles and network security architecture.
- Test for vulnerabilities on all infrastructure, perform internal penetration testing, organise external testing.
- Review and act upon notifications from security and monitoring toolsets.
- Completing and inputting into internal and regulatory cyber security auditing of all systems.
Key Skills Required:
LAN/WAN configurations, LAN hardware (Cisco & HP routers/switches), corporate level firewall management (Cisco, CheckPoint), strong Active Directory (on-premise and cloud), strong M365 security, Windows Server, HyperV, endpoint security solutions, Azure, AWS and cloud platforms security, physical security systems.
Proficient understanding of network protocols, IP addressing, subnetting and routing protocols. Security systems/software/protocols – e.g. MFA, encryption, MDM, filtering, ATP, DNS security (DMARC, DKIM, SPF) Knowledge of SIEM, VAS, IDS, IPS, IAM, NAC, patch management, anti-virus (ESET, Defender), web filtering, spam filtering, device security. Familiar with industry accreditations, e.g. ITIL, Cyber Essentials +, GDPR, ISO27001, NIST CSF, CAA CAP1753.
